As the nation’s largest advocacy organization for trails, walking, and biking, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy reimagines our public spaces to create safe ways to be active outdoors. As the name highlights, the organization transforms bygone routes of public transportation into recreation paths that connect communities. With more than 1 million grassroots supporters, 25,000 miles of rail-trails on the ground nationwide, and 9,000 miles of rail-trails ready to be built, Rails-to-Trails focuses on linking these corridors—creating trail networks that bridge people and places and benefit communities all across the country.
A free, chapter-based organization that brings women together from all over the country to go hiking? Count us in! Hiker Babes chapters are for women wanting to get outside more, meet other like-minded ladies in your community, learn new skills, give back, and build lifelong friendships. Hiker Babes offers inspiration and empowerment through its 100 Hike Challenge, New Trailblazer Challenge, and Hike for a Cause events that help improve our communities.
Calling all national park lovers! As the official nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, National Park Foundation has a singular focus: caring for our treasured national parks. The organization promotes programs and projects that protect precious landscapes and wilderness, historical sites, and places of cultural significance. The National Park Foundation works to keep trails clear through its service corps programs, partners with collaborators like the White House to get kids outdoors through Open OutDoors for Kids, and helps raise and allocate critical funds to keep our national parks safe for all.

For girls, The Cairn Project expands outdoor access by supporting community-based wilderness and outdoor education groups around the country through a small grants program. Women Who Hike inspires women who are on their own explorative journey through hiking, self-discovery, and nature. Sound like your jam? Whether it’s getting together for group hikes or online education, Women Who Hike is a community where women are empowered to go the extra mile and reach new heights. With nearly 300k Instagram followers, 1.9 million uses of #WomenWhoHike, and state specific and regional groups—women are able to connect with each other for hikes and outings as well as share tips and tricks for the trail. As a community and a collective, Women Who Hike is passionate about stewardship, advocacy, and lending a helping hand to both places and people.
